1. Partnership
FES is a Political Foundation and not a funding agency. The aim is to establish partnerships with Ghanaian organisations, which are based on a set of common goals and values. A key element of these partnerships is an ongoing dialogue. Such dialogue aims at interpreting jointly the political developments, which take place in Ghana, and at continuing to improve cooperation between FES and its partners. FES perceives cooperation as a broad based process and not as an event.
2. Burden Sharing
Almost all FES activities in Ghana are implemented within the context of creating a partnership with a Ghanaian organisation. In most cases, in the pursuit of reaching common objectives, a variety of instruments are used, leading to the implementation of various activities instead of isolated initiatives. In this spirit, FES expects its partners to also contribute resources to joint endeavours.
3. Accountability
While being a Foundation with an ideological identity, FES is funded by the German taxpayer. FES therefore, not only participates in the conceptualization and design of the activities it supports, it also requires its partners to account for every Cedi of FES funds, which has been spent on joint activities.
Bearing in mind the various avenues of cooperation in order to achieve its aims, the Foundation supports and organizes:
- national and regional conferences
- workshops and seminars
- information programmes and study tours
- advisory services for partner organisations
- policy oriented research and publications.
