How to apply for an internship at FES – Ghana.

We are generally prepared to offer university students internships at our FES Ghana office.

Applicants for an internship at the FES Ghana office should

  • have at least completed the foundation courses or „Grundstudium“ in the German system or be a major in one of the following departments
  • Political Science,Social Science, Economics, Law, African Studies or related studies.
  • demonstrate an interest in an internship of not less than three months.
  • have identified an area of particular interest.

Your application should inlcude the following items and should be submitted in English.

  • Your Curriculum Vitae with a passport picture attached.
  • A clear and precise explanation of your interest and expectations regarding an internship at the FES Ghana office
  • A brief on your topical area of interest and studies.
  • The length of your internship.

Please send your application and the required documents to office@fesghana.org . Internships with FES-Ghana are usually organised in a way that you will spend about half of your time assisting us on current programmes. The other half of your time you should be prepared to pursue your own work programme, e.g. in preparation for a masters thesis. If shortlisted, you will therefore usually be requested to submit your concept paper for any such study.

It must be stressed that the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung does not offer any monetary compensation for travel expenses, does not accept any costs incurred by the applicant while in Ghana, and does not pay any honorarium during the internship period. All expenses including travel, board and accommodation remain the responsibility of the applicant. FES does not accept claims or responsibility for any accidents of and damages or losses to the intern as they may occur during the internship.

We encourage all successful applicants to inform themselves on the organisational, financial and medical requirements for travelling to Ghana as well as visa applications.

Successful applicants are expected to:

  • give written prove of valid medical insurance, including treatment whilst in Ghana and costs for medical emergency evacuation.
  • give written prove of valid third party damage insurance (Reisehaftpflichtversicherung).
  • observe Ghanas immigration and labour laws.
  • sign and submit a print-out of pdf document below as contractual basis.

If accepted, we will try our very best to direct your internship towards your identified area of interest and study programme.

We will respond to your application as soon as possible. Please be aware that the number of applications usually exceeds the available positions.
