The seminar provided the opportunity for the youth to acquire indepth knowledge of the budgeting process and to adopt strategies to engage the budgeting process to ensure that politicians do not pay lip service to youth programmes and issues. They were unanimous on the need for them as youth to close their ranks and forge a united front if they were to make any impact in influencing policies and programmes in their favour. Two committees were set up at the end of the two-day seminar; the Budget Tracking committee to monitor and track the 2008 budget, and the Input Engagement committee, charged with the responsibility of making inputs into the 2009 budget. The Budget Input Committee has since completed its work and submitted its report to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning for incorporation into the 2009 budget statement. The Budget Tracking Committee on the other hand would be starting its work in September when it is hoped a lot of the government's programmes as contained in the 2008 budget would be implemented.
