FES in partnership with the Legon Centre for International Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and NEPAD and the Foreign Affairs Committee collaborate to build the capacities of members of the Committee through workshops.
This year being an election year, the workshop which took place between May 30 and June 1, 2008 was on the theme "THREATS AND CHALLENGES TO NATIONAL SECURITY: GHANA AND HER NEIGHBOURS". Given the nature of the theme the leadership of Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior were invited to participate.
The issues that were discussed focused on:
1.Drugs
2.Migration
3.Small Arms
4.Ghana's Neighbours
5.Ghana's Foreign Policy amongst others
Resource persons were from academia, civil society and practitioners/experts. During the discussions one point that emerged was the issue of drug trafficking. Some resource persons were of the view that the increase in remittances in Ghana was as a result of the huge proceeds from the drug trade. Additionally, the implementation on Ghana's Foreign policy on good neighbourliness has yielded great mileage for Ghana. |
